This heat exchanger—also called the evaporator core—absorbs heat from cabin air as refrigerant expands inside, providing A/C cooling. A common failure is a refrigerant leak, which causes weak or no cooling; internal blockage or clogged fins can also reduce airflow. This evaporator was paired with a wide engine range including the 3.0L supercharged V6 and 4.0L turbo V8 in A6 through S8 models.
