The flexplate connects the engine's crankshaft to the torque converter in automatic transmission vehicles, transferring rotational force from the engine to the transmission. A worn or cracked flexplate can cause a loud knocking noise from the bellhousing area, especially during startup or gear engagement, and may lead to transmission shifting problems or failure to engage gears properly.
