This is a used OEM BMW Brake Anti-rattle Spring / Clip, part number 1163488, also superseding 1159957 and 1163641. It mounts on the front, left or right side of the caliper to hold the brake pads firmly against the rotor. When this spring or clip wears out or breaks, you'll hear a persistent metallic rattling or clunking from the brakes over bumps, even when the pads have plenty of life left.
