This BMW 8516511 Diesel Engine Valve Cover / Cylinder Head Cover is a used genuine OEM part, also superseding 8589942. It seals the top of the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine found in the 328d and X3. Over time, the cover’s gasket can leak oil or the integrated PCV system may fail, causing rough idling or smoke. Replacing the cover restores proper crankcase ventilation and prevents oil loss.
