Audi door stop / check rod, OEM part number 8T0837249A. This used genuine part replaces several earlier versions including 8T0837203, 8T0837249, 8T0837267, and 8T0837203A. Mounted on the front, it works on either the left or right side. The check rod controls the door's opening arc and holds it in position at intermediate points, preventing the door from swinging freely or contacting adjacent panels. When this rod wears or its internal detents fail, the door may no longer stay put on an incline or will swing past its intended stop without resistance.
