It was designed for the 1.8L turbocharged engines (1781cc, both DOHC and SOHC) found in Audi TT and VW Golf/Jetta models. The housing encloses the electric cooling fan and directs airflow through the radiator to prevent overheating; a cracked or broken cowl can cause poor fan shroud sealing and reduced cooling efficiency.
