This fan motor also replaces numbers 8641964, 8621192, 7640511, and others in the 174 series. It's specific to the 600-watt fan assembly, a common failure point where the motor seizes or the bearing fails, causing the fan to stop spinning or run noisily. When the cooling fan motor fails, the engine can overheat at idle or in stop-and-go traffic. This is a direct-fit replacement for the electric fan unit on turbocharged 2.0L and 3.0L BMW engines.
