This is a used OEM BMW engine air filter box / housing, upper half, part number 7555288. It's the top section of the intake assembly that houses the air filter element. A cracked or broken housing can allow unfiltered air into the engine or cause a loose fit for the filter, leading to poor filtration. This upper half was removed from a donor vehicle and is ready for installation.
