Also known simply as a cylinder head, this component seals the combustion chamber and houses the valves, camshafts, and spark plugs. On the 4.8L N62/N63-series V8 found in the 550i, 650i, 750i, and 750Li, common failure points include cracked heads between valve seats or warped decks, leading to coolant loss, external leaks, or misfires. The head is naturally aspirated, DOHC design.
