This valve controls vapor recirculation in the fuel tank vent system; when it fails, you may notice a strong fuel smell, hard starts, or a check-engine light for an EVAP leak. It is specific to the 3.0L N55 turbocharged inline-six and the 4.4L N63 V8 engines found in models like the BMW 535i, X5, and X6.
