It serves as part of the EVAP system, helping to detect fuel vapor leaks by cycling air through the system. When this filter becomes clogged or fails, it can trigger a check engine light or cause difficulty in passing emissions tests. It fits select BMW models with 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder, 3.0L turbocharged six-cylinder, or 4.4L V8 engines.
