This is a used OEM BMW Power Steering Fluid Reservoir / Tank, part number 6799589, which also replaces 6799590. The reservoir holds and filters power steering fluid, and a cracked or leaking unit will cause low fluid levels, leading to hard steering or whining noises from the pump. It was removed from a donor vehicle and is a genuine BMW component.
